I like your simple approach. One has to start somewhere... not everyone has $6000 to spend on Solar Panels.

@combatvetlawstudent BTU's are a measure of energy rather than power. A BTU is a shade over 1055 Joules. To obtain the amount of energy from your system you multiply the power (in Watts) by the time (in seconds). This will give you a quantity in Joules, and divide by 1055 to get the amount in BTU's. I believe heating systems work in BTU's per hour, but refer to them as BTU's. As it's a measure of energy divided by time, it's a measure of power.1 watt is approximately 3.41214 BTU/h
